At First Cut Trees, safety, precision, and professionalism are at the heart of everything we do. Recently, we were commissioned to carry out the safe removal of a large dead cedar tree for a valued customer in Torbay.
Sadly, this impressive tree had been in decline for several years due to the presence of honey fungus – a destructive disease that attacks the roots and can lead to structural weakness. Over time, the tree’s condition deteriorated to the point where removal became necessary on safety grounds.
Planning and Preparation
Before any work could begin, we successfully applied for the required permissions. Once approval was granted, our team quickly mobilised, working closely with Devon Lifting Services to plan the operation.
Given the tree’s size and location, a controlled dismantling was essential to ensure safety for both the property and surrounding area. Devon Lifting Services provided their 55-tonne crane, operated by Andrew Hartley, to assist in the precise removal of the timber.
A Smooth, Team Effort
The operation ran like clockwork, thanks to the expertise and coordination of everyone involved. Sections of the cedar were carefully dismantled and lifted away before being transported off-site.
A big thank you goes to Andrew Hartley for expertly collecting the timber, and to all contractors and staff for their hard work and professionalism throughout the day.
A Great Result
The removal was completed safely and efficiently, leaving the site clear and hazard-free. While it’s always sad to see a mature tree go, the safety of people and property must come first – and in this case, the work was carried out to the highest standards.
Well done to the entire team – a great day’s work all round.
